A dedicated Nurse Clinician with a resilient attitude towards challenges. If there is one thing you can say about
Amarjeet, it is that she is a “people person”.
Amarjeet started working as a telephone operator at the National University Hospital at the age of 18.
She moved on to take up a frontline position as an administrative staff tending to customers. During this time, she also
did her part-time GCE ‘A’ Levels, which she was determined to complete despite her father’s passing and work demands.
Her attainment of ‘A’ Levels encouraged her to pursue a nursing course in 1991. Now a qualified Staff
Nurse after graduating from the Ministry of Health’s School of Nursing, Amarjeet moved into pediatrics nursing care and
decided to specialise in this field. She signed up for Nanyang Polytechnic’s Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Pediatrics)
and became a qualified Pediatric Staff nurse in May 2001.
Despite the demanding, and emotionally draining nature of the nursing profession, Amarjeet’s passion
has kept her going. That has earned her the admiration and respect of her colleagues. Applying the essence of customer
service with nursing care, Amarjeet won recognition for her efforts when she was conferred the Service Champion Award
in 2001. She also bagged a Gold Award for her project presentation at the National Carnival of Quality Circles amongst
many other awards. Subsequently, she graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
Married with two boys, Amarjeet almost suffered a miscarriage of her first child while assisting a
medical team with the resuscitation of a patient. While she pulled through and safely delivered her baby, she was dealt
another blow when she was diagnosed with Grave’s disease, an immune system disorder. Despite the physical, emotional
and psychological trauma, she battled the illness whilst caring for her growing boys. She also struggled to complete
her Advanced Diploma in Pediatric Nursing. But her unwavering willpower saw her through all the trials. She is truly a
remarkable person.
