LLA 2008 Winner of Individual Category
Loh Tai Tai Betty
Administrative Assistant
ST Logistics

Age has not been a stumbling block for Betty. At 41, after working in various jobs — from factory worker to parking attendant to sales girl — she decided to pursue her O levels despite being discouraged by her friends, colleagues and husband. The latter felt she was not spending enough time with the family.

Still, Betty, who only had Secondary Three qualifications, was determined to do it as she longed to work in an office and to earn a better salary.

Her learning journey was not without struggles. Being Chinese-educated, it was hard for her to understand English course materials. Furthermore, attending night classes meant that she had to manage work, studies and family simultaneously.

Her efforts paid off, as the skills she picked up landed her a job at ST Logistics. “The world is changing very quickly so we cannot stop learning or we will be left behind,” said Betty.

Now a part-time student pursuing a Diploma in Business Administration at PSB Academy, Betty has shown that with determination, one can succeed at any age.
