Coming from a poor family background, Hui Ying shuttled daily to school in Singapore, starting her day at 5am. The travelling time ate into her time for homework and she had to stay up till 2am most days to finish revision.

Hui Ying took O levels in Malaysia but opted not to do her A levels but to study at the Singapore Polytechnic. It was a challenge to adapt to the different education system here where she had to adjust to using English & Chinese. Although she missed time spend with family,siblings, friends & classmates, she persevered and completed the Architectural Technician Diploma in 1985.

This was followed with a Diploma in Interior Design, Advance Diploma in Construction Management and Project Co-ordination(Gold Medalist) from the Singapore Polytechnic and Degree in Building (Construction Management & Economics) 2nd Upper Class Honours and Gold Medalist from National University of Singapore.

Hui Ying continue to increase her knowledge, skills and the training created opportunities for her to take on new areas of work.
