The youngest of 7 siblings, Seong Geak comes from a humble background. After A levels and National Service, he joined the Singapore Prison Services, and held the job for almost 30 years.
To plan for a career after retirement, he obtained a Diploma in Automobile Repair and other courses before he found his passion in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Seong Geak embarked on a five year TCM course and graduated with a Diploma in Chinese Medical Studies in 2000. He continued to enhance his skills by pursuing a part time course in
Guangxi TCM University where he completed a Master Degree in Chinese Medicine.
His colleagues were supportive by changing shifts with him to accommodate his course schedule. He had to work night shifts and public holidays but he still found time to volunteer at the
TCM centre in Tampines and the Public Free Clinic.
