LLA 2005 Winner of Individual Category
Ong Teck Kun
Computer Support Engineer

Teck Kun held many different jobs throughout his working life. However, one fact clearly shapes the reason for all the diverse jobs that he has held – a passion for learning.

Teck Kun started out as a construction worker and later switched to the production line. It was until he joined Singapore Technology Logistics as a dispatch driver that he discovered an interest that had stayed with him till today – computers. Tapping on the availability of computers at his workplace, Teck Kun immersed himself in practical learning and acquired knowledge about computer programming. He gained so much new knowledge and practical know-how that he could assist his colleagues when they faced computer problems. His newly acquired skills subsequently earned him his promotion as a Computer Support Engineer.

He readily admits that he often is like a sponge when it comes to learning, absorbing every morsel of knowledge. He is also living proof that certificates are not a pre-requisite in gaining new knowledge and skills.

Despite his poor command of English as he came from a Chinese-educated background, Teck Kun continues to update himself by devouring English programming books. His passion for learning, constant desire to keep abreast of the computer advancements and his self-motivation have helped him to stay employable.
