“Loyalty” and “perseverance” are words that best describe Abdul Rahim. He has been with the Singapore Telecom
Mobile Pte Ltd, his first and current job, for 37 years. He enjoys learning every day, making the most of every given
opportunity.
Abdul Rahim received his Diploma in Electronics, Computer & Communications Engineering from Nanyang
Polytechnic at the age of 54 this year. His sole desire was to keep up with the changing technology to upgrade his skills
and stay employable. This did not come easy. He has attempted to pursue higher learning on previous occasions but was
hampered by financial difficulties, family and work commitments. But he has finally succeded against the odds.
Abdul Rahim’s thirst for knowledge spurred him to take on an in-house leadership course and CREST
(Critical Enabling Skills Training) at SingTel. He has also attended Industrial Relations courses as well as courses to
hone his language and writing skills. In addition, he is currently pursuing a Diploma in Employment Relations jointly
organised by the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), Ong Teng Cheong Institute of Labour Studies, and Singapore
Institute of Management.
Also in the midst of studying for a Diploma in Islamic Studies at the Centre for Islamic Management
Studies/International Islamic University of Malaysia, Abdul Rahim is fluent in Tamil, Malay, Urdu, basic Arabic and even
Hokkien! He has now set his sights on taking up a Degree in Business Management. Truly a lifelong learner indeed.
