Rajasegaran is an exemplary worker who never gives up and he has adopted this mentality throughout his learning journey.
Armed with his GCE ‘O’ Levels, Rajasegaran started out as a clerk-of-works at the Housing Development
Board (HDB). He then enrolled as a part-time student at Singapore Polytechnic, pursuing a Diploma in Civil Engineering,
but did not manage to complete it. He went on to pursue a three-year part-time course, National Certificate in Construction
Supervision, and a Certificate in Building and Construction Safety Supervisor. On top of juggling work and studying for two
courses, Rajasegaran got married and had his first child a year later. “Busy” is quite an understatement in describing this
period of his life.
Undeterred by his earlier failure at the Singapore Polytechnic, he enrolled and graduated with a Diploma
in Building. He then pursued a Degree in Building Construction at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and graduated
with third class honours. Deeply committed to his studies, Rajasegaran often sacrificed sleep to finish his tutorials and
research.
In the little spare time he has left, he took up courses such as Conversational Mandarin, Computer
Literacy and even participated in a ‘Think-a-thon’ where he contributed 104 ideas in an hour a Certificate of Participation
for his effort.
His other achievements include being awarded the Long Service Award in 2003 for 20 years of hard work
and the First Level Good Services Award for his commitment in completing projects ahead of deadlines, Earlier this year,
Rajasegaran completed his Specialist Diploma in Construction Quality, Environment Health and Safety. He is currently
making plans to pursue a Masters degree.
