Ravindran is a young man with great passion for teaching. Despite a tough time in school, he did not throw in the towel but persevered to realise his dreams.

Ravindran’s academic journey was riddled with obstacles. When he was in Primary 4, he failed his exams. Thereafter, he was transferred to Primary 5 (Extended) and stayed in the extended stream till Primary 8. He also failed his PSLE. However, Ravindran picked himself up and defied the odds.

At the crossroad of his life – he had to decide on either going to a Vocational Institute or leaving school to find employment, Ravindran persevered and managed to attain National Trade Certificates at Levels 3 and 2 in 1986 and 1987. He also took on odd jobs to support his night classes to get his ‘N’ Levels.

In September 1989, Ravindran was enlisted for National Service, and sat for his ‘N’ Level exams while going through Basic Military Training. Upon completion of his National Service, Ravindran joined Hitachi Electronics Devices as a Technical Assistant and took up a part-time Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He successfully obtained his Diploma and was promoted to Assistant Engineer. That same year, he found employment at Sony.

While at Sony, Ravindran put himself through night classes and attained an Advanced Diploma in Industrial Engineering and Management with Ngee Ann Polytechnic.. But Ravindran realised his true passion was in teaching. So in 2000, after many failed applications, he finally secured a teaching contract with the Ministry of Education (MOE) at Bukit Panjang Primary School. Despite his good work performance at Sony, he resigned to pursue his dream of becoming a teacher. He subsequently attained his Diploma in Education in 2003.

Ravindran is currently pursuing a part-time Bachelor in English with Psychology at the Singapore Institute of Management. With 16 years of upgrading under his belt, he is living proof that anyone who perseveres in lifelong learning can realize their aspirations.
