To stay ahead of the pack, Rohani never wavered in her quest to constantly upgrade her skills.
Working six nights a week as a Staff Nurse, Rohani had very little spare time. With the support of her
colleagues who exchanged shifts with her, she managed to attend night classes and finally succeeded in attaining her GCE
‘A’ Levels.
Rohani was later posted to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) as an Ambulance Officer attending to
emergency calls. At SCDF, she developed an interest in Trauma and Emergency Nursing, which spurred her to pursue a one-year
Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Emergency) at Nanyang Polyclinic. She was awarded ‘The Singapore General Hospital’ prize in
1996 for her outstanding performance.
Her thirst for knowledge was not quenched as she went on to take up a two-year part-time Bachelor of
Health Science (Nursing) course at the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) in 1999. She did extremely well –,scoring
Distinctions for most subjects, and was awarded a Silver Medal.
Rohani joined SingHealth Polyclinics as a Staff Nurse in 2000. The wealth of experience she had
accumulated at SCDF and in emergency training and basic cardiac life support skills enabled her to assist in the
groundwork for Emergency Preparedness for the Polyclinics. These skills coupled with Rohani’s leadership potential
and good interpersonal skills soon earned her the position of a Senior Nurse Manager.
Rohani has been offered a sponsorship by SIM this year to pursue a Masters in Health Science
(Management), a part-time 18 month course. Academic courses aside, Rohani remains a dedicated nurse, constantly
surfing the Internet for more information on nursing standards and relevant case studies to use as guides to improve
the standards of nursing practice at Singhealth.
