Making a career switch is not difficult when one is supported by a company that believes in continual learning. Previously a checker in a construction company, Procurement Manager Kwek Kiat San was hampered by his lack of IT skills when he first joined Seafood International Market & Restaurant Pte Ltd.

The company sponsored him for IT courses and today, he harnesses IT to analyse data, does inventory management and even trend analysis. To help him understand his company’s business better, he was also sponsored for training in culinary skills and restaurant service.

To help some of the older staff overcome their apprehension of training, the company implemented a “buddy system” to alleviate their anxiety.
