Giving back to the community

This Lifelong Learner Award winner has a Diploma in Mass Communications, a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work, a Masters in Social Science (Applied Psychology and Counselling) and is pursuing a PhD (Research & Coursework) Psychology – all at just 33 years of age.

Sheena’s intensive learning pursuit stems from her deep-seated passion to help others. She holds a full-time job as a school counsellor. Yet, she has also found time to set up a voluntary welfare organisation, Nulife Care and Counselling Services, to provide free tuition for needy students.

Whether in school or at Nulife, Sheena pays special attention to her clients’ problems no matter how big or small they may be. Whenever she encounters an unfamiliar problem, she will put in extra effort to look for a solution. Often, it means attending new courses be it “Early Psychosis Intervention”, “Suicide Intervention”, or “Trauma Awareness”. Though she deals with largely youth-based issues, she goes the extra mile to pick up knowledge and skills beyond youth areas. So you will also see her taking up courses on the Singapore legal system, child maintenance and custodial rights and marriage counselling to better help her clients’ issues and problems.
