"Keep
Music Original"
Don’t let the music die
Ever wonder who you’re affecting when
you push the download button?
Ever thought of what you could be destroying?
MediaCorp Radio is proud to launch "Keep Music Original",
a year-long campaign starting 21 May 2003, at Velvet Underground.
Organised by MediaCorp Radio, this initiative is a first
in the industry’s stand against music piracy, to
help spread the message of supporting original music and
protecting the work of artistes today.
Together with the Recording Industry Association of Singapore
(RIAS), this campaign hopes to raise awareness among Singaporeans
on the adverse impact of piracy on the recording industry.
Illegal downloading of songs over the Internet and unauthorised
copying of sound recordings (CD-Burning) has become one
of the distinctive trends among the new tech savvy generation.
According to Mr. Kenneth Tan, Chief Executive Officer
of MediaCorp Radio, "We at MediaCorp Radio see the
need to preserve music in all its originality. Music downloading
and CD burning have resulted in consumers enjoying music
without paying for it. How then is the industry going
to survive? Think long term - if there is no money in
it to support creativity, then why would anyone make music
a career? Music is Radio and Radio is Music, so MediaCorp
Radio wants to educate our listeners on 'Keeping Music
Original'."
MediaCorp Radio is spearheading this series of efforts
to allow Singaporeans a better insight into the recording
business and music industry. Through these planned events
and public forums in the months ahead, MediaCorp Radio
hopes to engage Singaporeans in considering the dire consequences
related to music piracy.
