MediaCorp Radio and Golden Village present Charity Movie Premiere of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
¡ action heroes on the big screen¡ everyday heroes treated to an unforgettable evening ...
More than 2,000 guests filled the 12 cinema halls of GV VivoCity for the Charity Premiere of TMNT (The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), jointly organized by MediaCorp Radio and Golden Village. The movie screening brought together partners of both organizations, listeners from 11 MediaCorp Radio stations and friends from 13 charities adopted by MediaCorp and MediaCorp Radio for 2007.
It was a different kind of charity premiere, as every guest had a free ticket to the show ¨C unlike most charity premieres where tickets are priced beyond ordinary reach. The reason: we wanted the beneficiaries from our adopted charities to be the VIPs at this event - an evening out for care-givers to relax, a treat to the movies for residents and special children. No effort was spared to make the evening a comfortable one for our guests, and the infectious excitement of the more than 100 kids from various children¡¯s organizations made the efforts worthwhile.
Since 1996, MediaCorp¡¯s radio stations have adopted and supported a charity each, every year, for terms of 1 ¨C 3 years. Over the past 11 years, the stations have collectively supported 65 different charities and causes. In 2006, MediaCorp strengthened its community efforts by adopting Balestier Special School and the HCA Hospice Care under its group corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The fact that charities actively seek to be adopted by MediaCorp Radio bears testimony to the success of this programme. With the support of more than 90% of Singaporeans tuning in to us regularly, we leverage on our reach and soul connection with listeners to create awareness and contribute to the benefit of the less fortunate in Singapore.
Over time, we have been privileged to work with various charities ranging from the elderly to young children, youth and teen delinquency, disadvantaged, physically and mentally challenged adults and children, as well as dysfunctional family units. Our efforts have also included championing health related causes, anti-drug abuse and promoting education and continual progress. In helping these charities, we also provide a public service by educating listeners on issues like heart disease, breast cancer, kidney disease and drug abuse.
Mr Shaun Seow, MediaCorp Deputy CEO (News, Radio & Print), said ¡°Our charities inspire and energise us each time they share how we¡¯ve helped their cause and how they value our efforts. We¡¯re glad for the opportunity to make a difference to the good work they do for our society.¡±
It was a most enjoyable night for the 2000 some guests, and it's testimony that heroes do not just exist on celluloid but in real life - helping and nurturing special people with kindness and compassion.
