Lifelong Learner Awards 2007
Sixteen individuals and six companies received Lifelong Learner Awards from President S R Nathan on Friday 9 November 2007.
The Lifelong Learner Awards 2007 is an annual nation-wide search for Singapore¡¯s inspiring learners who demonstrate perseverance in embracing lifelong learning. Now into its sixth year, the awards pay tribute to extraordinary individuals who are committed to continuous learning and training to stay relevant in the changing economy, as well as companies that have systematically put in place systems and processes to enhance and maintain their workers¡¯ employability and productivity.
A collaboration among MediaCorp Radio, Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and SPRING Singapore, LLA 07 serves to recognise individuals and organisations that epitomise the spirit of lifelong learning. The checks and validation of the productivity and quality systems and processes that companies have put in place to enhance their employees¡¯ employability and productivity are done by Singapore Productivity Association (SPA).
Out of the 1,073 nominations received from the public since June 2007, the winners (please refer to Annex A for the full list of winners) were selected by a four-member judging panel led by Ms Grace Fu, Minister of State for National Development.
The Individual category winners come from different backgrounds and each winner represents an inspiring story of grit and sheer determination against the odds. This year¡¯s winners include a retired prisons officer who became a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner in his second career. The Corporate category winners represent a good mix of companies from different industries such as Retail, Food & Beverage, Healthcare and Logistics. Each one of them has in place their own unique set of practices and systems to encourage employees to continuously upgrade their skills to enhance employability and boost productivity level.
Winners in the Individual category received a certificate and a cash prize of $500 while their nominator received $200. A plaque was given to all winning companies in the Corporate category.
