Marriage Convention 2008 ends on another high note

The Marriage Convention 2008 proved to be another success, receiving overwhelming support as tickets for seminars in English and Mandarin were snapped up within two weeks. The annual event saw sought after speakers sharing useful, insightful tips and different perspectives on building a long-lasting relationship. The best part of this all – the speakers were speaking from personal experience and paired with their spouses for that extra dose of realism.

Held from 29 to 30 March at the Suntec Convention Centre, the convention saw some 2000 people attend the public seminars conducted in English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil. Keynote speakers for Marriage Convention 2008 included Bill and Pam Farrel from the United States. The Farrels are popular international marriage speakers and best selling authors of over 26 books including “Men are Like Waffles, Women are Like Spaghetti”.

Organised by MediaCorp Radio and supported by the National Family Council, in partnership with TOUCH Family Services, Marriage Convention 2008 was launched by Guest of Honour, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports with an opening seminar for 300 family life professionals, Deputy Registrars of Marriages, Licensed Solemnisers and marriage educators.

"TOUCH is happy to be the event partner of Marriage Convention. For the first time, the public seminars included real-life sharing by married couples. Through this, we hope that participants would be inspired and take home practical tips. Each session was also anchored by a male and female speaker to provide different perspectives to help them better understand what makes their spouses tick, and how they can use this understanding to build a better relationship," said Mr Eugene Seow, Executive Director of TOUCH Community Services.

According to Ms. Zakiah Halim, Vice President (Malay, Indian and Community Programming), MediaCorp Radio, “As with the previous years, Marriage Convention 2008 has been a great success with overwhelming support from couples. MediaCorp Radio is proud to be a part of this annual series which provides our listeners with an excellent platform to pick up tips from marriage experts on how they can have a happy and meaningful marriage.”
