Making A Difference, One Step At A Time

MediaCorp embarked on its fundraising initiative “Making a Difference – A School For The Children” in August 08.

Construction work at Shaanxi Province, Bao Ji City, Feng County in China commenced in September 2008. The school’s foundation was laid in October and November and by the end of December 2008, the school’s ceiling was almost complete.

The construction of the rest of the school structure is ongoing. The size of the school was increased from the initially-planned 1,260 square meters to 1,376 square meters, due to the need for enclosed corridors to ensure maximum safety for the children. Close to 300 students are currently housed within the school premises, away from the main construction site. The construction of the school is slated to be completed in May 2009.

"Making a Difference - A School For The Children" is an initiative by MediaCorp Pte Ltd, in support of World Vision International (Singapore), to fund a school in Shaanxi – one of the heavily affected areas during the Sichuan-Wenchuan earthquake. Close to $100,000 was raised for this good cause and were channeled to World Vision Singapore to build a school in Shaanxi for the children to continue in their learning journey.
