Marriage Convention 2009
Marriage Convention returned for the fourth consecutive year with over 2,000 participants turning up for the three-day seminar. Organised by MediaCorp Pte Ltd and Marriage Central, held in partnership with Focus on the Family Singapore, the convention was held from 27 to 29 March 2009.
Speaking at the official opening, Guest of Honour Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) shared some light-hearted anecdotes and highlighted the importance of marriage, "We need to equip couples with the correct mindset and skills to see them through the ups and downs of a marriage. Marriage is a commitment, and its success depends on a deliberate decision to work at it, and to give and take."
Over the sessions, participants learned a great deal from renowned overseas speakers Mitch and Ronda Temple and local speakers, husband-and-wife teams – Simon & Bee Chin Sim, Carl & Carol Lim, Mohamed Khair & Suriati and Gideon Hari & Susanna Kumari.
Said Ms Zakiah Halim, Vice President, Malay, Indian & Expatriate Programming, MediaCorp Radio, "Over the years, our listeners have always responded positively to the annual Marriage Convention and look forward to picking up new tips and experiences. This year was no exception as we have worked with various partners to secure local and international speakers in English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil – offering listeners a variety of content."
